Miami is one long Endless Summer, just what I needed last week. Then, when I get back to NYC, it’s summer here too, yay! Happy Memorial Day everyone, may this summer be warm, endless and filled with lots of picnics and backyard parties.

Wednesday night, after a long flight from NYC and a long drive in the rain from LA, I checked into this lovely room at The Ace Hotel in Palm Springs.

I love the trellises (such a good idea, and easy to DIY), and our room came with a record player and a patio with a fireplace.

I was very excited to be somewhere warm and sunny again. Not having to wear a jacket in the daytime rocks! The desert is really warm during the day, but gets cold as soon as the sun goes down.

Our room, number 215, was right across from the Ace Pool & Swim Club, where I spent quite a bit of time over the past few days…

Everyone in Sweden used to get a metal ID badge when they were born, not sure if that still is the case, but I just found mine in a drawer and started using it as a necklace. This time, with a Milajki angel charm clipped to it, for added fun.

I bought this suede jacket with rabbit fur lining in a vintage store in Toronto a few years ago, I love it but find there is a very short window of time each year when it’s actually possible to wear it — not too warm, not too cold. I need to come up with more ideas on how to wear it so I can use it more often.

I made this scarf last winter, knitting is one of my favorite winter-time relaxation activities. I’m going to start something new this week. Maybe a hat?

I’m not a huge fan of baked goods. That said, I will eat a cupcake if it is offered to me. Then I’ll feel guilty and overindulged, swear not to do that again, and forget all about it the next time a tray of colorfully frosted cupcakes appear.

These tiny cupcakes from Baked by Melissa are perfectly bite size — small enough to have two (with no guilt attached). I simultaneously love and am a little frightened by this tie-dye one.

Best of all, if you order more than 300 you can make your own flavor! How awesome would that be for a party?

1. Go to Christmas Tree shop. As someone who does not like to pay too much for anything, I felt the $80-100 that the sidewalk tree vendors in my neighborhood wanted was way too much. I researched and found that the most reasonably priced trees in Brooklyn can be found at Home Depot in Gowanus.

2. Pick tree. I had two criteria: it couldn’t be too wide and had to be taller than me. This 7-foot balsam (err, thanks fact checker) fraser fir was dense, symmetric and $35. Score.

3. Secure tree to top of Mini. I thought the tree would be bigger than the car and it would look really funny, but it wasn’t that bad. It also stayed on the whole way home, which was a very good thing.

4. String lights.

5. Add bling.

6. Step back and adjust. I hate seeing wires, and the lights are still a bit uneven.

7. Rest and admire, decide to finish another time. Now, I just feel like laying down in the sofa with some kombucha and a magazine and putting my slipper-clad feet up. The ornaments can wait. Stay tuned…

The only thing worse than deciding what to wear for your own wedding is to figure out what to wear to your best friend’s.

I didn’t want to buy something new so I made this old Grecian silver dress feel new by pinning it up in the front and adding some cute stockings. (These photos were taken after we got home, hence the slight disheveledness.)

Then there was the hair. I wanted to put it up but since I don’t have very much hair I needed some help. After searching all of Stockholm for a hair donut without any luck, I decided to buy a bath sponge, cut it to the appropriate size and wrap my hair around it (thanks for the help, Anna!). Some very quirky D.I.Y inventiveness that worked great.

I have not worn this sweatshirt dress in years and was just about to put it in the Salvation Army box when I realized it could be fixed!

Out came the scissors and off came the bottom. Chop chop.

I’m still not sure what to do with what used to be the pockets. Take them off or maybe turn them into little bows?

Roll up the sleeves and there it was, a brand new shirt that I will actually wear.
