As increasingly cold winds are blowing through the streets of NY, I find myself longing for the warm breeze of summer.
Satara is both fairtrade fashion label and NGO. The collection, designed by Dutch designer Moniek van Erven, is made by women in India who are self-employed and through this work able to support their families.
The inspiration for the collection comes from the beautiful concept and culture of hand-woven Khadi fabric. The cloth is steeped in Indian history and was an icon of Mahatma Ghandi’s liberation movement, where it embodied the ideas of freedom and autonomy, truth, and closeness with nature. Building on these words, the Satara collection represents the dream of empowerment, femininity, and independence.
Gorgeous.
