VM-finalen igår sågs på Radegast, en tysk (ironiskt nog) biergarten. Fast de utgav sig för att vara “World Cup Headquarters” fanns där bara en skärm, vilket betydde att sikten från större delen av stället var noll. Skulle aldrig gå hem i Europa! Vi hittade ett litet hörn med skaplig sikt bakom baren, och där stod vi i timmarna tre. Kan inte riktigt bestämma mig om det var en bra eller tråkig match. Men nog skulle man vilja vara i Spanien nu! Detta är det första fotbollsVM som riktigt uppmärksammats i USA, vilket ju är väldigt kul. ESPN köpte in alla matcher för rekordsumma och de flesta barer med ölkranar visade matcher på ett eller annat sätt. Till och med bagelaffären på min gata hade en skylt på dörren som utannonserade att VM-matcher kunde ses där inne (varför man nu skulle vilja det är en annan femma).

Watched the World Cup finals yesterday at Radegast, a German (ironically) biergarten. Even though they claimed to be “World Cup Headqurters” there was only one screen, which meant that there was zero view from most of the place. That would never fly in Europe! We found a tiny corner with decent view behind the bar, and there we stood for three whole hour. I can’t really decide if it was a good or a boring game. But how much would you like to be in Spain right now? This is the first soccer World Cup that has really gotten mainstream attention in the US, which is lots of fun. ESPN bought all the games for big money and most bars with beer taps showed the games one way or another. Even the bagel joint on my street had a sign on the door advertising that World Cup games could be seen there (why anyone would want to is a whole other question).
