A DAY OF (CREATIVE) SERVICE

Yesterday I took part in a community outreach project in The Heights.

We painted a mural on a previously dull, brown wall in the school yard.

Using low-VOC paint from Green Depot, because we do not want to poison kids with toxic paint fumes, do we?

The day before, a track and some turf had been installed. There used to be nothing but a concrete slab for these kids to play on.

The school is named after Duke Ellington, so the inspiration was the joy of music and play.

Though happy colors on a wall may not change the world, it gives the kids at this school something positive to look at every day — a small change in a small part of the city. But, we have to start somewhere and maybe, just maybe, we were able to sow some seeds of change and positively motivate the little cuties at this school?

I fell asleep exhausted (hands still covered in dried paint), but happy, knowing that I did something good.
