BLACK + WHITE

Concrete Flower: 110304: Black + White

Here’s the white vintage shirt I bought the other day, paired with some (also new) black faux leather pants from H&M, Chanel peeptoes, a brass cuff from Fallon and red lips courtesy of Burt’s Bees lip shimmer (in the color Merlot).

MY FEBRUARY

As February came around, I had left Waikiki and was on the roads of Oahu, traveling around in a ’78 VW Westfalia camper van. We had so much fun I haven’t even posted all the pics yet, but one of our favorite places was Friends of Malaekahana, a campground where we stayed for two nights—one in the van and one in a grass shack on the beach—made a fire, and enjoyed the surrounds. I did not surf, but had lots of poke and a few Mai Tais. Back home in NYC, I watched the Packers win the Super Bowl, went to a party at MoMA and an Agent Provocateur store opening, spent a lovely Valentine’s with my love. I enjoyed the few sunny days we had by taking long walks (sometimes stumbling across a new store), watched rainshine on my window, lusted for things to come and went for my first outdoor run of the year. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for spring!

SILKY WHITE

Concrete Flower: 110301: Silky White

This is one of the finds from the new second hand store (which I can’t recall the name of) I came across on my Sunday walk.

A sleeveless white shirt in a great silky material, at $48 it was bit expensive for me but something tells me I will get a lot of use out of it. (Sorry about the mirrorface!)

MALAEKAHANA MORNING

Concrete Flower: 110228: Malaekahana Morning

The second night at Malaekahana we parked our VW right by the beach. This is how good it felt to wake up there.

Upon waking up, the first thing  I saw was this, to my right.

Then, this, looking down and straight ahead.

When living in a van, one becomes very good at crouching.

We had a classic Hawaiian breakfast of papaya with lemon.

Then, we left our camp to embark on the day’s adventures.

The people at the campground recommended that we go to this place called Hukilau Café for an early lunch. The place is famous locally beacause scenes from the movie 50 First Dates were shot there.

It was on a street called Wahinepee, which was funny because Wahine means Girl in Hawaiian. I had a decent salad for $1.50, probably the cheapest meal I had all trip.
